Mother's day at Carousel

Hi there! How did you celebrate your mother's day? Sorry, I know this post is long overdue! But schooooooooooooooooooooooooooool sucks. Hehe.

Anyway, I do feel that Mother's day is not really a day to cherish your mother, or be grateful to her, nor is it a day to tell your mother that you love her. Remember that period of Valentine's day where people keep saying that for a couple, everyday should be Valentine's day if you love each other? Well should it not be the same for mother's day? You should cherish your mother everyday, be grateful and not take her for granted everyday and ideally tell your mother that you love her everyday. (Of course being Asians, we don't do that..)

Haha in my opinion, mother's day is a day that the government has set for us to celebrate our mothers. It's also a day to remind children about our dear mothers are there, and that they should be celebrated for everything they've done for us. So it's not really a mother's day, it's more of a remember-your-mother day. Haha can you spot the difference between those two greetings? Anw, that's what mom's day is for me :)

SO. Mother's day has always been a big deal in my family. As soon as us siblings have our own money and could go out, we'd always go searching for the most perfect present. My mom is fussy like that lol. This year though, my mom was adamant that we dont buy her anything. We acquiesced, well mostly anyway.

We got her gorgeous pink carnations plus some other flowers of which I don't know the names of. Sidetrack: I never knew flowers were so expensive! Annnnnd we also brought her for high tea at Carousel! It's a buffet and omgggggg food was gorgeous :) We celebrated on Saturday because Sunday reservations were full. So pictures below are the food! (Haha! While people were circling around food, I was snapping the pictures.)

Cold cuts! Sushi, raw prawns, clams, salmon etc. Can you see the 1 piece of fish there? Omg its damn yummy (Y)(Y)(Y)

 Sandwiches

 Gado-gado station
 The chefs

Salad station which I kinda didn't like

Fondue and ice cream station. Ice cream flavours were boring ol' chocolate, vanilla and strawberry

Laksa station. Tried my mom's and it was quite naise.

Chocolate orange thingy (which according to my father was awesome)

Malay kueh

Btw, I didn't manage to snap pictures of ALL the food. Was too hungry by then lol.

 SECOND PLATE

 THIRD PLATE

 FOURTH PLATE

 FIFTH PLATE (omg sconesssssssss!!)

SIXTH PLATE

HAHA so a lot or not? Okay I feel like a glutton now :( To be fair, I didn't finish everything that was on the plates. Like whatever that I felt wasn't worth eating after taking a bite of it, I won't finish it. Since got more food to taste mah ^^

Hehe I got my mother a photoframe of us siblings too, for her to put at her work so that she can gaze upon our be-yoo-ti-ful faces at work ^^ HAHA. Okay, so that was how I celebrated mother's day. Hope yours went as well as mine did! :)

Breeks

Breeks offers Western inspired food, ranging from salads right up till dessert. I have been wanting to eat at Breeks, although for some reason when my friends ask me if I wanted to eat anywhere, I didn't think of suggesting Breeks. Haha! So my desire to eat there have been ongoing for quite awhile, until one day I had a break between school and a school outing to go to IMH.

That's mental hospital for those who don't know. IMH is a lovely place, and the programs and interventions they do for the mentally ill is inspiring. I've gone to the mental institution in Hong Kong and I shall proudly state that Singapore's facility looks better :D

Haha deviated to such a far topic. Back to fooood. My friend and I ordered the Baked Chicken Pattie and the Shrimp Etouffee. After ordering, the waitress asked if we wanted to purchase a set of soup+drink for $5. The soup was a choice between Cream of Mushroom or Crab Gumbo Soup, while the drinks was a choice between Nutella Milkshake or the Blue Dolphin.

We chos the Crab Gumbo Soup cuz it sounded unique! (Does gumbo mean anything? o.o) Haha then we chose the Nutella Milkshake cuz I love nutella!! :) Anyway the set is super worth it k! Individually, the soup and drink would have been $3.90 + $6.90!!

The Gumbo soup. Hmm. The texture was similar to the cream of mushroom. Actually it looks like it too. But it has a different taste that that. No crab taste la, though it tastes quite nice.

Oooh yummy! The milkshake was thick, sweet and cold! Hahahaha omg of course it's cold -_-! Hehe anyway it was naaaaaaaise. Yumyum.

Baked chicken pattie. I don't know what was inside the pattie, but I felt quite healthy eating it! Hahaha. There were also capsicums beneath the melted cheese which adds to the flavour. Love the mash potatoes and the sauce that comes with it.

(just realised that this photo completely hides my potatoes o.o)

Shrimp Etouffee. The picture doesn't look nice (haha okay my photograping skills sucks), but it tasted good! The description on the menu sounded nice actually. "A traditional Cajun and Creole cuisine made up of sumptuous baked shrimps with Jambalaya rice and topped with creamy melted cheese." Lol stole it from the website.

There was like a thick cheesy taste on the rice and for the side, they had some beans/peanuts thingy that was also topped with the cheese. Nice! :)

We went to the Breeks at City Square and I love how nice the waitress was! Wish that I saw her name so that I can state it here. She even helped us take photos!

Location: City Square Mall, #03-21/22
Price: $40.70
