Spize

"Spize offers a Uniquely Singapore al-fresco dining experience with a careful selection of our favourite recipes. From the much loved Western and Mediterranean, Spicy Indian, Authentic Thai to our favourite Singapore local street food!"

This is what they say in their website, and I must say that I agree. In my previous post, I mentioned Spize right? Well, my first time eating at Spize was actually a few years ago with my family at Bedok. Since then, I've not gone there, not because I didn't like the place, but because my dear father hates driving there >:(

This time, I visited the one at River Valley! Smaller place, but still good food.

Awesome cheese fries - $6.50

The portion was realllyyyyyyyyyy big! Was super surprised when it came. Of course it tastes good, how could anybody mess up cheese fries? Love the fact that there was a lot of mayo and cheese on it.

Hor Fun - $6

Yummy stuff as well. Couldn't really remember it, but I remember thinking it was goood. Hee!

Nasi Goreng Kampung - $5.50

This is a family favourite because this nasi goreng always has awesome chili! And yep, my chili-loving family loved it. If that wasn't convincing enough, then just look at all the keropoks given o.o

Their specialty, Roti John - $5

I love their roti john! The sauces were so awesome to eat with too. The brown one is like mushroom sauce. It's what you'd normally eat with your steak or chicken cutlet etc. Creamy and yummy! Red is chili sauce, and yellow is cheese sauce. Normally, they'd just pour the sauces onto the roti john, but my sister asked for them to be separated. It's nicer to eat that way imo, cuz then the bread won't be soggy. But to each to her own :D

Seafood Fried Rice - $5.80

Didn't taste this, but it looked good!

Tom Yum - $6.50

This was spicy, I mean, just look at all those chili padi :O So beware non-spicy eaters.

Okay so the food prices are a bit steeper than normal hawker food, BUT the amount they give plus the taste is definitely better in my oh-so-humble opinion. I wanna go back there and eat! Hoho. I just looked at the website and realise that they do deliveries too. For the lazy people who wanna enjoy good food but are too lazy to get their butts out :)

Tom Yum Goong

Hi there!

Someone got me a voucher for two to Tom Yam Goong for my birthday, and so I headed down to Bedok for dinner on Thursday with a friend. Bedok is such a food haven, with all the halal stalls out in the open. Price good, food good. The only thing you need is time to travel down there :)

Made reservations for 7pm and we reached early. But we didn't wanna go in first because I was fasting.

Exterior of the shop

There were about 26 dishes on the menu, of which, there were 6 dishes that you could only order once. So here are the 6 'special' dishes. Btw, you can have your choice of Steamed Rice or Pineapple fried rice if you want.

1. Tom Yum Soup (prawns)

Love the fresh prawns! Be warned though, that this is thick and authentic tom yum, and is very spicy!

2. Seafood with Basil leaves

This was quite unsatisfying. The term seafood with basil leaves implies that seafood is the main thing of the dish, but there was actually more vege in the dish! Still yummy, though, if you could ignore the misleading fact.

3. Stuffed chicken wing

Oooooooooh this is yummy! They stuffed the chicken with.....chicken? I think... But it was yummy, really. The outside is grilled and goes well with the inside. Do ignore the weird shape of the chicken though.

4. Pandan chicken

Unwrapped pandan chicken

I can honestly say that I've tasted better pandan chicken, but the taste wasn't bad. Still, I did expect something bigger. Look at the piece to the left. I ate it all up at a go.

5. Thai Chicken Satay

I know you can't see it, but this was actually on satay sticks, hence the name. Hmm, it was slightly sweet. Not unpleasantly sweet, mind you. Just a tang of sweetness plus some other flavours.

6. Prawns with garlic

Lol yes, the portion served were rather small. Tastes good though! I just realised that apart from the Tom Yum soup, these are all non-spicy. Most of the other dishes here were spicy, and my poor friend couldn't take spicy food!

The rest of the food listed below are the other dishes in the buffet that could be ordered twice. And they were definitely spicy!

Mango Salad

THIS IS YUMS. It's like an explosion of flavours in my mouth. Sweet and spicy!

Spring roll

Just like any normal spring roll. Delivered nice and hot though! One of the non-spicy stuff.

Chicken with cashew nuts

I love the cashew nuts added. It adds in a new flavour altogether. The chicken meat was tender and yay no bones. My friend said that this was spicy, I didn't find it so.

Penang Curry chicken

Oooh! Yumz really! :D For some reason though, the chicken were rather...flat. As in, literally flat like ayam penyet.

Anyway! Tom Yam Goong charges for wastage of food. But the tom yam soup was too spicy to drink up. So we didn't finish it. The tom yam soup was the first dish to come out, and one of the last dishes to be collected. They collected all our empty plates but refused to take that way. So at last I took out the spoons and put it on the other empty plates to hint that we were done.

Also, the service of the staff were rather lacking. We got free flow of drinks from the buffet. But they took a long time to refill our lemon tea. So my friend was dying from spiciness half the time. I know that they're busy serving us and other people food. But a more efficient system could have been set up.

Minced chicken with basil leaves

This tastes like chicken with soya sauce plus cili padi. Spicy.

Fish fillet with 3-flavour sauce

Just a typical fried fish fillet with sweet chili on top.

By the end of all this, we were so full that we only ordered one desset, which is Red Ruby. Apart from that, the buffet also offers fresh fruits and tapioca with some sweet sauce on top of it.

Yup that's the end of my dinner on Thursday! We spent 1 1/2 hours eating there haha! The food service was fast and good. The waitresses needed to be talked to slowly, I repeated my order about three times everytime. And the service for drinks were bad.

If you're a big eater, coming here would be quite worth it because you have quite a lot of dishes that you can order more than once. However, if you can't eat spicy food, and not much of a big eater, then perhaps trying out their set meals would be a smarter choice :D

Buffet cost: $18 per pax

Yureka Teppanyaki

Yureka Teppanyaki serves a variety of food from sashimi, to grilled food, and to more classic choices of Asian favourites. It's a place where families can go to due to the wide variety of choices. I was brought here for my birthday celebration with my friend and I can't wait to go back there with my fussy family of eaters.

We got the Twin Teppanyaki set

and the Take Sashimi Set

This is the Take Sashimi Set

 Look, he's preparing my food!!

I was wondering how many time this guy has had his picture taken by complete strangers

Twin Teppanyaki Set - Ebi Furai

 Twin Teppanyaki Set - Salmon

Twin Teppanyaki Set - Chicken

The Twin Teppanyaki Set also comes with vege, rice, soup, soda drinks and hot green tea.

 Twin Teppanyaki Set - Vege

 FOOOOOOOD :)

The food was goooood. Everything was nice. The ebi furai was really crispy and there weren't any excess oil. I don't really eat taugeh, but I glomped up all the vege! hehe. Salmon was good, chicken was good. And it seems that that is the extent of my vocabulary today. Haha!

The sashimi set was normal, how different can sashimi be? But I disliked the red snapper, though I'm not sure if it's because the fish wasn't fresh or because I just don't like that particular fish.

 Interior of the restaurant

 Staff were efficient too!

The place is really easy to get to. Alight at Kembangan MRT and turn to the side that has a taxi stand. I think it's the left side. Cross the road and go into the alley to the right of Kembangan Plaza. You should be able to see the Teppanyaki sign which looks like this:

And this is how the rest of the exterior looks like.

They have another branch at Upper Thompson road, but come this branch cuz it's a newer branch!! Lolol. Anyway, in case you don't trust my directions and would like to google, here's the address:

Kembangan outlet: No. 10 Jalan Masjid and the other outlet is at No. 5 Thong Soon Ave.

Sofra

If my previous post was for mother's day, this food outing has a special significance too! Well, special for me at least. IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY! :)) When my mom asked if there was any place I wanted to try, my mind went whirling. It isn't often that I have this option of picking a place to eat at, knowing that I don't have to pay a single cent for it :D

So.... In the end, after trolling the internet for choices, I chose Sofra! Sofra serves Turkey food, and the name itself means dining table in Turkish. The restuarant was furnished with folksy trinkets, giving it a rather soothing and romantic ambience. Such a nice place to go with your partner! :) Especially at night and if you sit by the window, because the lighting is dim. Btw this explains the rather bad quality of pictures. That and the fact that I didn't really take any food pictures. I passed my camera around instead. Hey, birthday girl gotta take a break k! Hoho.

My camera makes everything look bright, but the inside is actually quite dark.

Sesame bread

This thing is so cute and nice to eat. It came to us all fluffed up and warm.

Hummus

Turkish bread

Hazelnut coffee
Am I the only one who finds the cube sugar super cute? Hehe.

Chef plate
A combination plate consists of Doner kebap, Izgara Kofte & a skewer of shish kebap
Donor Kebap rice
Donor kebap served with Turkish fragrant rice

Izfara Kofte (mine!!)
Grilled flat meatball served with Turkish pillav and salad
Adana Kebap
Spiced minced meat cooked over fire
Sultan Kebap
Mildly spiced lamb served with baked cheese and mashed potato
Guvec Tavuk
Oven baked chicken and mushroom served with rice

This is somewhat the first time I'm eating Turkey food, so I have nothing to compare it to. But the hummus, which has had stunning reviews from the many websites I went to, tastes good. It tastes even better with the sesame and turkey bread.
I chose the wrong dish actually because I didn't like the vege/salad stuff. So I was only able to eat the rice and meat. BUT. My sisters dishes, the Sultan Kebap and Guvec Tavuk were AHMAZING! So even though I didn't enjoy my dish, I don't regret going there! Ooh and I definitely wanna go there again.

We ordered a dessert out of curiousity. It's called the Baklava. It's homemade Turkish fitto pastry with pistachios.

Didn't really like this pastry due to its sweetness. But! My mom and sister liked it, so maybe it was just me. Hahaha maybe I just have a more modern taste ;) I wanna try the Turkish chocolate pudding with marshmallow the next time I come though!! Actually, I have a lot of things I'd like to try, so you guys should try the food too, and tell me how it is! There are a lot of interesting choices, which you can see from here. It's halal, unique and about as expensive as Swensens or Secret Recipe etc. So go on and try something new today!

Because this was a birthday treat, I don't really know the total cost of the bill. But my mom let it slip that it costs about $150 +/-. So 6 dishes, 6 drinks and 1 dessert = $150. Not bad right! If you're skimping, don't order drinks and take advantage of their foc plain water. So go go gooooooooo.
