Sofra

If my previous post was for mother's day, this food outing has a special significance too! Well, special for me at least. IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY! :)) When my mom asked if there was any place I wanted to try, my mind went whirling. It isn't often that I have this option of picking a place to eat at, knowing that I don't have to pay a single cent for it :D

So.... In the end, after trolling the internet for choices, I chose Sofra! Sofra serves Turkey food, and the name itself means dining table in Turkish. The restuarant was furnished with folksy trinkets, giving it a rather soothing and romantic ambience. Such a nice place to go with your partner! :) Especially at night and if you sit by the window, because the lighting is dim. Btw this explains the rather bad quality of pictures. That and the fact that I didn't really take any food pictures. I passed my camera around instead. Hey, birthday girl gotta take a break k! Hoho.

My camera makes everything look bright, but the inside is actually quite dark.

Sesame bread

This thing is so cute and nice to eat. It came to us all fluffed up and warm.

Hummus

Turkish bread

Hazelnut coffee
Am I the only one who finds the cube sugar super cute? Hehe.

Chef plate
A combination plate consists of Doner kebap, Izgara Kofte & a skewer of shish kebap
Donor Kebap rice
Donor kebap served with Turkish fragrant rice

Izfara Kofte (mine!!)
Grilled flat meatball served with Turkish pillav and salad
Adana Kebap
Spiced minced meat cooked over fire
Sultan Kebap
Mildly spiced lamb served with baked cheese and mashed potato
Guvec Tavuk
Oven baked chicken and mushroom served with rice

This is somewhat the first time I'm eating Turkey food, so I have nothing to compare it to. But the hummus, which has had stunning reviews from the many websites I went to, tastes good. It tastes even better with the sesame and turkey bread.
I chose the wrong dish actually because I didn't like the vege/salad stuff. So I was only able to eat the rice and meat. BUT. My sisters dishes, the Sultan Kebap and Guvec Tavuk were AHMAZING! So even though I didn't enjoy my dish, I don't regret going there! Ooh and I definitely wanna go there again.

We ordered a dessert out of curiousity. It's called the Baklava. It's homemade Turkish fitto pastry with pistachios.

Didn't really like this pastry due to its sweetness. But! My mom and sister liked it, so maybe it was just me. Hahaha maybe I just have a more modern taste ;) I wanna try the Turkish chocolate pudding with marshmallow the next time I come though!! Actually, I have a lot of things I'd like to try, so you guys should try the food too, and tell me how it is! There are a lot of interesting choices, which you can see from here. It's halal, unique and about as expensive as Swensens or Secret Recipe etc. So go on and try something new today!

Because this was a birthday treat, I don't really know the total cost of the bill. But my mom let it slip that it costs about $150 +/-. So 6 dishes, 6 drinks and 1 dessert = $150. Not bad right! If you're skimping, don't order drinks and take advantage of their foc plain water. So go go gooooooooo.
