Mad Jack

Last iftar post for the month because tomorrow is Hari Raya! :D

Headed to Mad Jack a few days ago with a bunch of friends. Five of us shared 3 sets of soup and dessert on top of our main dishes. Here's the cream of chicken, which by the way is nothing spectacular. Nice, but nothing to remember.

 Swan River Chick

My first friend had this. I tasted the sauce and found it to have a unique taste. Haha the texture is something like an apple puree, and the taste isnt of a normal Asian taste. More for someone who likes to try out things, but not for old fuddy duddies who like it spicy.

Blue Mountains Beef Burger and Chips

Two of my friends had this, and both had quite opposite reactions to it. One of them loved it and ate all of it, and another didn't really like it and drenched her burger with tartar sauce to make the taste better. Me, I tasted it and didn't quite like it. It's homemade, and I think it didn't quite achieve the normal taste of a fastfood or a Ramly burger. BUT keep in mind that those are rather unhealthy. This tastes quite healthy actually!

 Psycho chicks and chips

Hot fried chicken and fries. What can go wrong right? Hoho.

 Grilled chicken in cream sauce

Mine! :D

It tastes okay, nothing wow-ish about it. Could do with more cream cause in my opinion, but then again, I do love my cream sauce.

And this is the dessert that comes with the set! Didn't like it because of the taste of cheap chocolate... But then, this is a set meal cake, so maybe the real desserts would taste better!

This information comes abit too late, but Mad Jack serves dates for malays. In my group of friends, 2 of us were malays and the other 3 are chinese. So what happened was, the server gave my friend dates and told her that she can request for her food to be delivered after breaking fast, but he didn't tell me! Haha, well it's because I have a white complexion, so he mistook me for a chinese! My other friends were laughing their heads off at me.

Didn't really catch how much it was, but the prices are stated on the website, so you can check them out if you want!

First outdoor iftar of 2012

I realise that this blog has been sparse lately, and I do apologise for that. It's just that during fasting month, I tend to stick at home more. On Friday though, I decided to break that trend at buka-ed outside.

 My root beer float!

Look at that Ramadhan set behind me. For that, a drink, chicken soup and a brownie, it only costs $15.90! I did not purchase that deal though as I did not want to eat anything on there.

 Chicken-ham and Cheese salad

Ooh I love the yummy garlic bread. It tastes extra buttery there yum yum. Cranberries in a salad surprisingly makes it taste better because of the sour-y feeling that comes from it which complements the entire salad test. This was surprisngly filling and I couldn't finish it!

Okay la, my friends have mentioned that my appetite seems to be non-existent (not true, I swear) so maybe that's why?

Black Pepper Ala Carbonara Seafood Pasta

Yummy. Or maybe I'm bias  because I love cream sauce and prawns. Hehe. The cream was nice and thick, which I thoroughly love, however, what I don't love was the very very strong black pepper taste coming from it. Towards the end, eating was a torture because all you could taste was black pepper.

What's a meal without dessert right! My friend and I ordered Apple Crumble and Tiramisu.

I thought a cafe would be selling nice cakes, but it's actually quite meh. Disappointing, considering how excited I was to see the cheap price of it. Okay R Cafe, time to make better cakes and up the prices! It's just better to eat a maybe $3plus cake and have it taste nice than eat a $1plus cake and have it taste like it came from NTUC.

Apple crumble had a strong cinnamon taste coming from the apple. Couldn't taste the crumble itself. Tiramisu, couldn't taste the creamy part which is supposed to be coming from the white part.

So has anybody guessed where I dined at? :D

Royals Cafe is located at City Square which is at Farrer Park Station. I supposed, despite the meh-ness of some parts of the food, it was a good dining experience. But if I were to drop by City Square again, I would definitely dine at some other place. They do have quite a few halal restaurants there, so do drop by!

Total: $25.20
